One hotel night, every way to book it
The same room can be booked through the hotel, through Amex or Chase with a credit and breakfast, through a travel advisor, or with points. A card’s travel site sometimes quotes more than the hotel does, which can cancel out its credit. Put in the prices and see which way really costs least.
How the comparison works
Each way of booking has a price and a set of extras. Best Way to Book takes what you pay, including tax and after any card credit, and subtracts what the extras are worth to you. It does not count an upgrade or a late checkout as money, because no program promises them in a way you can price, with one exception: Amex guarantees a 4 pm checkout on Fine Hotels + Resorts stays.
The card and advisor rates are normally the hotel’s flexible rate. When Amex Travel or Chase Travel quotes something else, enter it: the comparison then shows how much of the card’s credit the difference uses up.
What each way of booking adds
